Question about being a stronger person?

A friend of mine is engaged and the grooms best man is a real jerk. My friend (emily) says that she is igning another bridesmaid to make sure that the grooms best man doesnt ruin the wedding by being his jerky self. This, says emily, is becuse I am not 'tough enough' for the job. - what the hell is that supposed to mean an how can i get tougher?!
